Our Magnuson Park Gallery Events

Living Artists Collective was originally started to build community among visual artists and their supporters, so each show we put on centers our events as a way to bring folks together. In planning our current show, “Support artists while they are alive” at Magnuson Park Gallery, LAC artists, volunteers, and leadership come up with many ideas of events to take place among the art. We narrowed it down to a couple things that we thought would best benefit the artists and prepare our supporters for what’s coming up with LAC: A business structure and tax workshop for artists, and a strategy and fundraising evening to get feedback from the broader community.

The Opening

The “Support artists while they are alive” opening reception happened at Sand Point Arts & Cultural Exchange, Magnuson Park Gallery on Friday, September 8th. Around 70 attendees filtered through to check out the gallery while enjoying beverages and snacks. Folks were encouraged to vote for their people’s choice picks in three different categories.

The wonderful HeZza FeZza performed on keyboard and vocals throughout the opening reception. A lucky few of us were able to snag a copy of her vinyl album before they sold out. Hezza got connected to LAC while meeting with Maddy Berkman of the Magnuson Park Gallery in preparation for an upcoming gallery show she’s coordinating featuring artists who live in housing within Magnuson Park.

Irene Wilde with her piece “The Blackest Bile”.

Joselyn Narvaez with her piece “Untitled”.

Marina San Miguel with their piece “Inner Strength”.

Scott Coffey with his piece “Untitled (The Whole World is Watching, We Must Be Nothing Less Than Fabulous)”.

The Podcast

Executive Director Alaina Stocker was interviewed for Magnuson Park SPACE 101.1 radio station, which has been released as a podcast episode for The Magnuson Park Gallery Exchange. Terriko Summers, a SPACE volunteer, asked Alaina about how LAC got started, stories from its existence so far, and the inspiration behind the current gallery show, “Support artists while they are alive”. Check it out!

Sand Point Arts & Cultural Exchange is a nonprofit organization made up of half the Magnuson Park Gallery and half SPACE 101.1, a low-power station which you can stream online.
