Join Us in Our “Third Place” for Culture and Community
In our last update, we told you about our biggest undertaking yet: a month-long group show at the beautiful Slip Gallery in Belltown. Since that time, our team has been hard at work planning the show as well as a host of communal events to further our mission of helping local artists to remain and thrive in the Seattle area. The show’s theme, ‘You are not alone’, was inspired partly by 90.3 KEXP radio morning show host John Richard’s unofficial tagline. It was chosen to remind folks through art and community gatherings that there are others out there who care for them and want to share in their experiences.
There’s a lot of heartbreak and healing that has happened in the creation of the pieces included in this show. We can’t wait to see what is formed when artworks that speak of alone-ness come together in conversation.
Join us during April gallery hours Wed-Fri 2-6pm and Sat-Sun 11am-2pm, and for our special events. Continue reading for artwork previews and event descriptions.
We’ll kick off the month with our opening celebration. Taking place from 2-4PM on Sunday, April 2nd, the reception will feature live entertainment by Christiana Crabbe of theatrical synth rock group Sprig!, a live painting demonstration by local artist Claire Donaldson, and a first chance to see nearly 50 works by 38 Seattle artists in a multitude of mediums.
Next we’ll host an Artist Networking Night on Friday, April 7th from 5-8PM, featuring presentations from Esther Loopstra (visual artist and coach) and Maddy Berkman (Magnusen Park Gallery and Shunpike). We invite all local artists, art world professionals, and art enthusiasts to join us for this evening of networking and community.
On Friday, April 14th, we’ll be a stop on the Belltown Art Walk. This fantastic event has become an institution for art lovers and artists alike.
There will be an Art Therapy Workshop on Thursday, April 20th from 6-8PM, hosted by local artist Alex Sylvester. This evening of free creation will take place in a judgment-free, safe space.
Finally, we’ll round out a month of community and creativity with our Closing Reception on Saturday, April 29th from 6-9PM. Our closing event will feature a performance by Fruit Juice followed with a set by DJ Aunt Joody.
Beer and wine will be available at all events. In addition to the original works of art for sale in the show, we’ll also offer a curated selection of fine art prints.
From April 1st through the 29th, the gallery will be open to the public Wednesday-Friday from 2-6PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 11AM to 2PM.
A huge thanks to Slip Gallery and to our sponsors, Belltown Inn and Biscuit Bitch for their support. Your investment in living artists is helping to keep Seattle the vibrant and exciting community that we all know and love.
If you work with a company or organization who shares our values and would like to sponsor the show, please reach out! There’s still time to join in this communal effort to educate the community about why it’s important to help low-income artists stay in our increasingly expensive city.
Tickets to all of the events are available here. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for up-to-date information and to see more sneak peeks at the upcoming show.
That’s our update for now. We can’t wait to see you at the gallery!
