We got our 501c3 status!

You heard me right! Alaina here; I’m the one who started this whole thing back in early 2020. The world has changed a bit since then, huh? Well, so has this Living Artists Collective project. And I couldn’t be prouder that we’ve finally made it to this stage of receiving our 501(c)3 charitable status from the IRS.

This means that we can accept tax-deductible charitable donations from individuals and businesses, we can apply for grants, plus receive financial matches from all the big names. Please kick us off on this new phase of our journey by making a donation! If you have made a donation to us between October 28, 2021 and now you can write off those donations to our organization on your taxes. You’ll receive an email from us shortly if that applies to you.

Check out our pretty acceptance letter:

Thanks so much to all of you who have volunteered, served on the board, donated, and shown art with us to date. Especially to our former and current board members: Alison, Alex, Erika, Taylor, Yevgeniy, Arielle, and Kyra. I am reminded daily of how important it is for low-income creatives to be enabled to remain in expensive cities like Seattle. Let’s continue working together to create grants, put on events, educate the community, and have an excellent time in the process.

Curious how you can get involved?

Besides donating to support our programming, we need more board members! What that means these days is that we’ll call on you to fundraise and write grant applications in addition to a quarterly meeting to check in on the state of the organization. You would oversee the major decisions of myself (the executive director), and would get to participate in seeing the Living Artists Collective grow with your help. If you’re interested, then please fill out this form. I will follow up shortly after it is received to give you the run down of where we’re at and answer any questions you may have.

What’s next for us?

We just put on on our biggest show yet at Slip Gallery from April 1-29, 2023. ‘you are not alone’ was a group show curated by myself and a team of volunteers, for which we organized events that centered around the artwork and performances in the space.

Coming up in Sep-Oct 2023 is a group show around the theme of “supporting living artists while they’re alive” at Magnuson Park SPACE Gallery. For this show we will draw from artists who are listed in our directory and that we have worked with in the past. Please reach out if you’d like to be on the volunteer planning team for this event.

It’s time to buckle down and apply for grants, so we’ll take all the help we can get in this department. Do you have experience grant-writing or fundraising? Please volunteer with us.

That’s my updates for now. Stay involved by DONATING(!!), signing up for our newsletter, following us on Instagram and Facebook, and coming to see us at Magnuson Park in the fall!

Take care,

Alaina, Executive Director of Living Artists Collective
